The North Coastal City Keelung always gives a gloomy impression because of the frequent rain, with the nickname the Rain City or the Rain Port due to its location: facing the sea and surrounded by the mountains. However, Keelung looks quite beautiful during sunny days with its clean sky, blue sea, and gorgeous marine erosion landscape, very cheerful feeling like watching a rainbow after the storm.

As a city of Taipei metropolitan area, Keelung’s seaport receives the tourist cruise ships often from other countries, as well as many visitors from Taipei to enjoy the charming coastal scenery, specially near Badouzi Fisherman Port, while hiking along the hills at the seaside. For people who suffer motion sickness like me, Keelung appears a very nice choice (well, just don’t go there in heavy rainy day when the streets could easily be flooded and possibly you would be swept away by the strong current of Keelung river). Half an hour’s drive from Taipei would not make me throw up, but keep fine to enjoy the ocean view. Don’t nag at me about Chising Bay in the East overwhelmed by Korean, Japanese, Chinese tourists, or Kenting Beach probably full of the bikini girls and suntanned surfers. Anyway, Taiwan is a subtropical island, whichever direction you go would definitely end up in the blue sea…
