As a Southern Fujian folk culture museum, the Historical House of Lin is one of the classic ancient architectures in Taiwan, standing for more than 200 years. The layout was well designed with comfortable natural light from each window, perfect air movement, and elegant artistic carvings in wood and stone indicating various folk cultural meanings, like good luck, fortune, healthy long life. Walking around it, you can feel the life of a rich family from Southern Fujian during the 18th century, learning the folk culture and enjoying their interesting traditions. This old house with free entry attracts not only the tourist, photographers, but also many newly wedded couples to shoot their charming marriage photos.
The Historical house of Lin had been built in 1783(in Da’an district of Taipei now), by a rich shipping businessman with surname of Lin, whose family originally came from Anxi, Fujian. Due to the 1978’s city expanding project, the House had to be destroyed. Thanks to the efforts of many scholars, finally it was disassembled very carefully (each part in record marks) and rebuilt as the original look and Fengshui location after 6 years in Bingjiang Rd, Zhongshan District. The house now covers an area of 672 sqms, while the whole land stretches over 16,000 sqms. Even it could not be the historical relics, the House of Lin still remains a rare folk culture treasure for our human beings.
BTW, when Mr.T and I stood near the new-moon-shaped pond in the front yard, we saw so many planes flying above our heads, roaring as the wild metal beasts. Alas! Suddenly I got pretty weird feeling like trans-passing very different periods of time as in science fictions, haha.
