“Be Yourself, a Different Firework” Nightwish – Élan（MV)

Élan (means impulsion,passion),is a song from the latest album “Endless Forms Most Beautiful”of Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish in March 2015, which marks the first to feature its 3rd leading singer, Ms Floor Jansen and the uilleann pipes musician Troy Donockley as a full-time member.It’s a pity that the drummer Jukka Nevalainen had to take a sick leave because of his suffering from insomnia for years. So his friend Kai Hahto joined the band as a temporary replacement.

This new album follows Nightwish’s main music style, powerful, grand symphonic metal; however, some critics still fall on the songwriter Tuomas Holopainen (Keyboard player), such as “not creative””he’s dried up”. Well, personally,I find it fine to keep one’s original style, not try too many varieties and lose its own personality, like some gothic bands. Inspired by the poems of Walt Whitman,an American poet during the 19th century, Élan is defined by Tuomas as “The underlying theme of the song is nothing less than the meaning of life, which can be something different for all of us. It’s important to surrender yourself to the occasional ‘free fall’ and not to fear the path less travelled by.” Since the MV appeared on Youtube, the song has been covered by the fans for over 200 versions. Oh, that’s amazing, isn’t it?
