Tamsui lies in the north coast, and once was the biggest trade port in Taiwan.

Since the 16th century, it had been colonized by Spain,Dutch,Britain,France and Japan. Opened by force, the port of Tamsui was crowded with foreign ships and merchants. By the mid-19th century, it became the biggest trade port in Taiwan and reached its golden age with the reputation of “Venice in the East”.
After the rise of Keelung Port, Tamsui began to wane. Nowadays, the remaining colonial scene turns into a tourist attraction, as well as the artworks about Tamsui keep the focus of world attention, probably because of its unique history and culture.

By the way, it’s quite pleasant to take a walk along the bank of Tamsui River in a sunny afternoon and let the summer wind tangle my long hair, haha…
