Over 20 years history, Tiamat has evolved from the typical death metal into one of the leading exponent of “symphonic” black metal in a more atmospheric deliberate way with Gothic feel. The band doesn’t have regular members, except the music composer, Johan Edlund, who committed that he preferred personal creation in his studio than arguing with other members about their music. Sure, I do agree it’s quite difficult to find a person who is congenial to another. To find 3, that’s mission impossible.
Tiamat is from the name of an ancient Babylonian goddess of chaos。 It grew out of a metal band Treblinka formed in 1988, and the official member has been one, yes, Johan Edlund. Since 1990 when the first album issued, it has experienced 23 yrs of courses. From the original death metal to the various symphonic styles, the main themes still remain, gloom, lost and desperation. Among its 13 albums, I like Wild Honey most, which was regarded as the unparalleled height of invention, the perfect combination of lingering death metal roots and ambient brooding gothic touch, while the vocal brings a hint of warm sunlight through the cool melodies, sad but beautiful.
P.S. I remembered Johan Edlund was a quite handsome guy with long hair during 1990’s. Recently his new look blew out my mind,OMG ! Who is this bald man in heavy make-ups?Oh, no! Give me back the long-haired guy…

清冷萧瑟中透着艳，阴郁绝望中透着暖。不熟悉音乐，想到A song of ice and fire里暴虐自利下的丝丝情意。
